This morning, I met up with Ingeniero Perfecto, the town president. We sat down for a few hours, and he corrected spelling on my plants, as well as added uses or confirmed what I had from Don Chinto. He then showed me a few more plants.
Later in Library, it was game day. I played games as usual and we used my flashcards that I made of the most frequent Spanish words.
After Library was done, Jas had a ton of the kids working on her project called Kids with Cameras where they take photos of things around them and learn environmental education through photography. While we did that, Eric had set up interviews and interviewed Kari about her project in order to make a documentary. During the time they were filming, Jas and I were in the main area called “La concha” with the kids. I was on the other side of a field, and Jas was working with kids. A number of the kids from the surrounding houses ran up to play, and there were kids everywhere. One baby ran out, and we had her brother take her home, but she kept running out. This particular child cries all the time, and so it was no surprise when she was crying at the other end of the field. All of a sudden, a woman runs and gets her and starts yelling at us. She got really close to Jas’s face and was really angry. Luckily, Joe was standing there and went to calm her down. Apparently, she was hitting another baby, and he bit her around the eye. Just because we were in the same area, it was automatically our fault. She was saying all this stuff about how we take the kids and do all this strange stuff and insulting the gringos. It turned out that she wasn’t even from Tabuga, and she was the grandmother of the child, whose mother had not even been watching her. It was a big scene, and a few Tabugans defended us saying it is not our responsibility if you let your kids loose and they get hurt. Library is not a day care, and this woman doesn’t understand that.
Later, Ingeniero and Geomira told Kari that the kids were all upset by this woman yelling at us and they were also furious that she was saying those things. Ingeniero said that some people are still like savages and don’t understand the good we are doing for the community.

After all this, Kari and I went to Canoa for the night, but it was unfortunately Lay Seco, the dry weekend before voting, so there was not much happening. We played trivia night at an American restaurant called “The Surfshack”, and won!
