Realizing How Lucky I Am

Kari and I spent all day using internet in Canoa and walking around. It was a break for me, and I felt really sick. I took a long nap when I got home, and hung out with my host family.
We decided to go to Quito later in the week for a day to purchase all of the books and supplies for the library from the money I raised from donations the next Wednesday night until Friday afternoon.  I have gotten really close with my host sister Fabiola, and she has been my cook, my nurse, my translator, my guide, and more here in Tabuga. I decided that I wanted to take her to Quito seeing as it would be one of the only opportunities she would have to leave the coast. When I asked her if she could come, she was shocked and asked her mother who immediately said yes. She then started tearing up. I asked why and she said that she had always wanted to go to Quito. It was that moment that I realized how much we take for granted that a little trip that costs around 30-50$ is a huge privilege for some people. Going to the city doesn’t seem like anything to me, but now I fully realize how special of an experience it can be for someone.
